Swedish superstar and main talisman for the club Paris Saint-Germain, Zlatan Ibrahimovic has impressed with his best performing season yet. 32 years old and captaining the Swedish national team has been showing a lot of his colors lately as he compared women's football with men's football, "With all respect for what the ladies have done, and they've done it fantastically well, you can't compare men's and women's football. Give it up, it's not even funny," said the Paris Saint-Germain striker in an interview with Expressen Newspaper. The Swedish striker said more "When I come out in Europe they compare me to [Lionel] Messi and [Cristiano] Ronaldo. When I come home they compare me to a female player. With all respect for the ladies, they should be rewarded in relation to what they generate [financially].
"I was asked [by Swedish media] in the summer who was the better player, me or [Sweden striker] Lotta Schelin. You're joking with me, right? When I've broken all these records, this goal record, the goals in the national team, who shall I compare it to? Shall I compare it to whoever has the record, or the ladies?". Zlatan Ibrahimovic is the football world's most outspoken player and interviews like these are common with him everywhere. the main issue is whether Zlatan's comments are respectful towards women.
This post is a bit saddening to see, since this man thinks that women are not as good as men. In a way, I understand what he is trying to say, that he feels bad when people compare him to women who have a lower score than him, but the fact that he's trying to say that only women get low scores and that they should not be compared to him since he's a better player and a man ties in with him being sexist. He believes that women cannot reach his level financially, but who is to say that men can? If he were talking just point wise, or game wise it would have been fine, but he exaggerates the fact that he is being compared to women, which shows that his mindset is not right. Of course everyone is entitled to their own opinion, but that does not mean their opinions are always right. Just because he is outspoken does not mean he should just blabber everything he thinks, since it is considered disrespectful to women players. They put in the same effort as he does, and may even be just as good as he says he is.
Oh the Zlat has atleast some merit, he douesnt want to be compared to females because its thought normally (and it is in Sweden) that women arent that great compared to men. Comparing skills and the amount they generate, it is vast with men edging women in that sense. I get Ibra because he is currently the 2nd best player and he wants to be compared to players who are just as good as him but when he goes to Sweden and gets compared to ladies who havent been playing as long as him and don't attain the amount of trophies hes got over the 14 year span it gets frustrating. However he should have some respect in regards to this topic, from what he said "With all respect for the ladies, they should be rewarded in relation to what they generate [financially]." shows that he is trying to respect women but I guess its just not enough. oh and i forgot to mention, he earns 12.4 M euros a year for a reason compared to Lola's 25K a week salary (1mE)
I think that Mr.Ibrahimovic is incredibly rude and disrespectful. To become so upset over being compared to a female soccer player is obscene. What bothers me to a greater extent is that these responses are seen as common of him. Since when did this kind of belittlement become tolerable by society? This man is known for being outspoken (rude), and yet no one has called him out on it? Why hasn't the media blown this story up? It seems as though this player is being let of the hook because hes a good player, which to me feel incredibly unjustified!

I somewhat understand where he is coming from; he shouldn't be compared to people who aren't near him in terms of recognition, but there are numerous female soccer players who are at his standards, so why is he so offended to be compared to a woman? What difference does the gender of the person make in regards to how the person performs on the field? This is just a sad example of how close-minded and unmoving we are to accept gender equality as the new norm.
Adri-Ann think accolades, think achievements, and lastly think money. Ibra has many achievements and he only deserves to be compared to good players and not players that are not at his skill level (Lola).
This post actually sickens me, because I am a female. He feels disrespected because they compared him to a female?! Did he forget that his mother is a female? Just because someone is born a female that does not define they capabilities and talents. My best friend is an amazing soccer player, and she is talented enough to be compared to a male soccer player. I guess he has this mindset that females cannot have the same amount, if not more talent than a male. That's straight up ignorance. I'm not going to act like male sports team get more international attention than female sport teams but that doesn't define the talent that these INDIVIDUAL females have!!
